ThinAir Fitness Hiking uses ‘destination hikes’.
Meaning, we keep hiking till the final destination is reached. Starting each hike with a known spot on a map to reach is the first step to begin and finish a good days hike.

Each destination normally will cover at least one mountain pass. This will result in two goals: one is a good cardio workout and the other is excellent photo taking opportunities. It is at these mountain passes where the feeling of accomplishment is achieved. Not to mention that once over the pass, it’s all downhill from there!

For the day hikes in July, we will provide a good, hearty,  meal at the halfway point. Since most participants will not be fully adapted to high altitude hiking, this meal will  restore the energy used will hiking in the thin air. Keep in mind, hiking burns about 400 calories per hour and more if you carry a pack. This is not only exercise, but exercise at high altitudes.

How you can prepare:

Just because you live in Colorado does not mean your body is adapted to high altitude hiking. There are some supplements you can take to get your body ready:

Chlorophyll:    This natural chemical stimulates red blood cell production.
Which in turn will allow your body to carry more oxygen. Chlorophyll
can be found online or at your local Whole Foods. Begin taking this
about a week before the hike.

Ginkgo supplements also have a similar effect and can be taken about
a week before the hike.
